KATHMANDU: The government has estimated losses of approximately Rs 400 billion from the Bhotekoshi flash flood that struck Nepal on August 26.

During a regular briefing organised by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) on Thursday, Executive Director Dr Dharma Raj Upreti said the authority had made a preliminary loss estimate of Rs 387.54 billion from the disaster. However, a detailed report is awaited.

Upreti said the country may require Rs 8 billion to restore various sectors over the next four months.

“It is essential to restore buildings, communications, energy and transport systems, health, nutrition, education, agriculture and livestock,” he added.
